My name is Kim, I am 32 years old and I am a stay at home mom of two children under two years old.
Just over two years prior to participating in Shed It! I got married, moved from Southern California to Minnesota leaving a very fulfilling teaching position, and gave birth to my two children (19 months apart). With my life filled with changes and a new “career” I found myself a little depressed and 20 pounds heavier than before I had kids.
When my youngest was about three months old Katie and Spencer Lewin , who are college friends of my husband, opened The Shed and invited me to try out spinning. Prior to their invitation I had only spun once or twice. Within the first month of spinning I was introduced to the Shed It! program and decided that was what I needed…some time to focus on myself! When I signed up I felt horribly guilty for doing something so time consuming for myself, but knew I deserved it and my family deserved to have a healthy and happy wife and mommy. I dedicated the next 8 weeks to me! I didn’t care if it was a 4 a.m. feeding before I had to leave to workout, (I live in Elko) it was “me time”! I didn’t care if I had to wake up three times during the night with my infant, it was “me time”! I didn’t care that it was much easier not to go workout than it was to go, it was “me time”! When I got to The Shed each day I gave 100% because I knew that hour, was the only one I had that day just for me!
My reasonable weight loss goal was 16 pounds in 8 weeks. I lost 14 pounds and kept it off through this past Christmas holiday and a two week trip to California. Now that it is over it’s easy to speak so positively of the entire process, but it was not easy! Shed It! is intense, exhausting, and emotional! By the second week I wondered if I could make it to the end, and hit another mental wall in week six. I found my self in tears as my muscles shut down because they were so tired and nauseous as I pushed my heart-rate to 90% of its workload. Let me tell you it is so worth it, your body is way stronger than your mind thinks it is!
The thing I like best about Shed It! is that no matter what your fitness level you are going to see tremendous results if you buy-in to all of the components of the program. Whether you have 10 pounds to lose or 100 pounds to lose I believe this program will work. I graduated with an Exercise Science degree and taught high school physical education before moving to Minnesota. I also have my personal training certificate and have worked out regularly for most of my adult life. With all of that background I still needed the environment that Shed It! provided in order to be successful at this time in my life. I believe the science behind this program is solid and just as importantly the group setting with knowledgeable enthusiastic instructors fosters accountability, community, and success.
